We can hardly believe it, but it’s been one month since we announced our NPC’s primary initiative: the Daisy Foundation Shop, where anybody can purchase real goods to be donated to dogs in shelters. It’s been a great month for our Foundation, so we thought we’d share a bit with you. 💛
The month starts
Daisy Foundation chose the Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg as our first shelter of the month because our family adopted a dog from the AACL Joburg in 2017. Our little dog Zach was saved by the hard working staff at the AACL, as he was a very sick puppy. He and his brother spent a long time in their animal clinic, and finally were ready for adoption. Upon fetching Zach at the shelter and witnessing animals longing for homes, we realised how important it is to help animal shelters like the AACL Joburg as much as possible. When we started our first month of the Daisy Foundation Shop, we decided to make the AACL our first shelter of the month.
A busy month
We’re still processing orders that generous people have made to be donated to the AACL Joburg, and collecting direct donations to our NPC. We have collected orders for a variety of items, which we will deliver during April to the Animal Anti-Cruelty League Johannesburg. Daisy Foundation’s initiative received support from across South Africa, and beyond. In fact, our first item donated was from a supporter in Australia! We also received some direct donations, to help us fund our NPC’s running costs and further help dogs in need — thank you to everybody who contributed any amount! Without generous donors, we wouldn’t be able to do our work. In other news, we’ve also been busy spreading the word — our founders, Lynne and Dylan, discussed our Foundation’s journey, and our inspiration, Daisy the Dachshund, on air Smile 90.4FM in Cape Town.
Democratising our work
While we were moved by the AACL Joburg’s work and long history, and we’re honoured to have made them our first-ever shelter of the month, we want anybody to be able to get involved in choosing shelters in the future. So from now on, people like you can nominate dog rescues to be Daisy Foundation’s shelter of the month. We need 12 shelters per year, so your suggestions will be appreciated! As a team, we can commit that we will always choose the organisation that we believe we can best assist — this means that we will choose shelters which are practically/logistically viable for us to help, that are official animal rescues (meaning that they’re registered NPOs/NPCs/PBOs), and that have a need for physical goods — like those on our website — to be donated to them.
While direct donations to our NPC can be made at any time, Daisy Foundation will close our online store at 11pm SAST on 31 March, and reopen on 2 April. We will soon announce our next shelter of the month, and then spend the month networking and engaging with regular people, like you, to get strong support for our April shelter of the month.
But before then, we’d just like to reiterate our thanks to everyone who purchased goods to be donated to the AACL Joburg. We appreciate your support, and we know they will too. Stay in touch on our Facebook, and we’ll post a delivery update during this month ahead!
